to be fixed. let's talk about with former chairman of the council of economic advisors under president clinton. he joins us from d.c. right now. on this show we have dismissed this idea of conspiracy, this number somehow fudged, no evidence to support that at all. in talking about that, we missed the fact the so-called real unemployment rate includes people who are discouraged, that stayed 14.7%, not good, fewer private sector jobs than forecast were added last month. again, not good. so for president obama, do you think unemployment is still a political liability at this point? >> unemployment is still too high. and much higher than i think he or indeed most of us anticipated it would be at this point in the recovery. the report was a good report. and i'm glad you agreed it wasn't a conspiracy. those folks at the statistical agencies are pretty independent. so it was a good number, but you're quite right. there are a lot of people unemployed, not just 7.8%, but the people who would like to have jobs, but maybe are not looking and -- connell: right. >> -- and have given up. we need a much stro
